Kent, Ohio · since 1971.

A community grocery store on Main Street for fifty-five years — organic produce by the bushel, bulk pantry by the scoop, herbs by the jar, and the shelves the rest of downtown forgot. Everyone is welcome. Membership is the part where you become a co-owner.

— Our tagline, on every tote —

"Local. Before local was cool."

Half a century before grocery chains discovered the word "local," neighbors in Kent pooled their grocery money to open a store that bought from farms within driving distance. That's still the whole idea. Apples from down the road. Maple from Geauga County. Greens from the next township over. Coffee roasted a few miles east. We tell you who grew it, who made it, and how far it had to travel — because that part matters.

— The member-owners of KNFC, est. 1971

A small store, packed shelf-to-shelf.

From the bulk bins out front to health & beauty in the back: organic produce, pantry staples, body care, supplements, and the everyday things the chains don't bother to stock.

— Cooperative principles —

Why a co-op, not just a store.

Open to all

You don't have to be a member to shop. Everyone gets the same shelves, the same staff, the same hours.

One vote

Every member-owner has the same vote — regardless of how much they spend or how long they've been around.

Owned by us

No outside shareholders. Profits stay with the people who shop here and the farms we buy from.

Independent

We make our own buying calls. Nobody's regional manager is choosing what's on our shelves.

Ready to co-own your grocery store?

Become a member-owner. Enjoy discounts, a vote on how your co-op is run, and the satisfaction of keeping good food close to home.
